FAQs
Online Training:
State Mandated
- Can the online training be taken outside of normal work hours?
No, the online training must be completed at the employee’s workstation during normal working hours unless prior arrangements have been made with the supervisor or department head.
- EEO is not listed as a course. What course is required for the training?
The EEO course is entitled “Creating a Discrimination Free Workplace” and the Ethics course is called “Ethics”.
- How do employees find out what UIN they have been assigned?
An administrator or ES Liaison can go to the SSO Menu and click on "HRC Admin". Enter the employee’s last name in the block provided in the “User Records” section. Then, click on “Search for UIN”. If you need assistance, please email EODinfo@tamu.edu or call 845-4153.
- How long will it take to complete the state mandated required online training?
It should take anywhere from 30-90 minutes for each training program depending on your reading speed and knowledge of the subject. Certificate Program:
General
- Are there any fees if employees only want to take a single workshop, without signing up for a Certificate Program?
Most of the workshops are free and you can attend workshops without enrolling in one of the certificate programs. However, some workshops use an assessment instrument or other instructional materials which may require payment of a small fee to cover the cost of these materials.
- How do I begin a certificate program?
In order to begin one of the certificate programs, you need to review the online orientation (which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Employee and Organizational Development website)
http://eodinfo.tamu.edu/ . Pick the program you are interested in, fill out the registration information, and submit your form to the Employee and Organizational Development. If you have questions you may telephone, fax, or email our office.
Phone: 979-845-4153
Fax: 979-845-4188
Email: edd@tamu.edu
- How do I register for the Capstone for one of the certificate programs?
To register for the Capstone workshop for one of the certificate programs, you will need to be registered for the program, have completed all of the required workshops within the year deadline, and fax, mail,or email the Verification form (found on each program's website). After we review your form, we will notify you of your registration for the next available Capstone. The fax number for the Employee and Organizational Development is 979-845-4188 and the mail stop is 1255.
If you have questions you may telephone, fax, or email our office.

- I am interested in taking the Emerging Supervisors Program (ESP), but I no longer see the ESP Orientation course offered. What happened to the program?
We expanded our services by offering several new programs that are tailored to better fit individual needs. For example, the Professional Leadership Program (PLP) is geared towards current supervisors and managers, while the Principles of Supervision and Management (PSM) program contains workshops regarding policies and procedures. These programs offer more depth and material than the more general Emerging Supervisors Program :(ESP). The ESP has been replaced with a richer series of courses to meet the University needs. Please see the Personal Development Program (PDP), the Principles of Supervision & Management (PSM) program, the Professional Leadership Program (PLP) and the Interpersonal Dimensions of Management (PDM) program at our website: http://EODinfo.tamu.edu/
If you have questions, please call 845-4153 or email at edd@tamu.edu
- Is there a charge or fee for taking part in a certificate program?
Yes. The fee covers the cost of materials, assessments and/or a textbook, and the certificate plaque.
- Must I enroll in a certificate program to take workshops?
Most of the workshops offered by the Employee and Organizational Development can be taken by any university employee. Some workshops are restricted to people enrolled in a specific certificate program. (e.g., Capstone courses for each certificate program).
- What is the target audience for the Professional Leadership Program (PLP)?
The program is designed for all employees to develop better self-leadership skills and enhance their professional effectiveness and for those employees who are in supervisory, managerial, and executive level positions.
- Will workshops that I have previously taken be counted towards a certificate program if they are required workshops for a specific program?
Each certificate program has a coordinator who will work with you to determine how best to meet your professional development needs. Many of the courses may have the same title as previous workshops, but the content has been changed to better reflect the audience for each certificate program. The program coordinator will help determine the appropriateness of taking a workshop again. The biggest consideration will naturally be the date that you took the original workshop. Classes taken several years ago will not contain the content of the workshops today. This review process will be considered on a case-to-case basis. You can find contact information for each of the program coordinators in the individual program orientation courses. You many also call 845-4153 or email edd@tamu.edu with questions.

Each certificate program has a coordinator who will work with you to determine how best to meet your professional development needs. Many of the courses may have the same title as previous workshops, but the content has changed to better reflect the audience for each certificate program. The program coordinator will help determine the appropriateness of taking a workshop again. The biggest consideration will naturally be the date that you took the original workshop. Classes taken several years ago will not contain the content of the workshops today. This review process will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions, please call 845-4153 or email edd@tamu.edu , or you can contact the coordinator for that certificate program.
- What is the target audience for the Professional Leadership Program (PLP)?
The program is designed for all employees to develop better self-leadership skills and enhance their professional effectiveness and for those employees who are in supervisory, managerial, and executive level positions.
- Why is there a charge for the certificate programs?
The charge associated with the new certificate programs covers the cost of the text, and the assessment instrument or book used in each program, as well as the program plaque and certificate awarded upon program completion.

Professional Leadership
- Can employees sign up for more than one certificate program at a time?
Since there is a time limit for finishing a program, we suggest that you choose the program that is most suited to your individual development goals and position. You can enroll in that program first, and then enroll in subsequent programs as appropriate.
- How do I pay for the classes or workshops or certificate programs? Does it come out of my paycheck?
The cost of the course is payable only through a departmental account number to the Employee and Organizational Development. The Online Orientation includes all the necessary forms for enrollment and payment of the required fee. If you have questions, please call 845-4153.
- How does the Professional Leadership Program (PLP) compare to the other Employee Development certificate programs?
The PLP has been developed specifically for individuals who are currently in supervisory, managerial, and executive positions. The workshops in the PLP deal with leadership issues that confront individuals who are responsible for directing the work and professional development of others. The Principles of Supervision and Management program focuses primarily on university, system, state, and federal rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and laws that impact the responsibilities of managers and supervisors and is targeted toward these individuals. However, it may also be relevant for individuals who are not in supervisory positions but need to know about the issues addressed in this program. The Personal Development Program (PDP) is specifically designed to help individuals improve the skills they need to achieve excellence in their professional life. Any employee is welcome to enroll in this program. Topics discussed are viewed from the perspective of the individual and, as such, would not be an appropriate forum for the development of supervisory skills.
- How will the Professional Leadership Program (PLP) prepare me to do my job better at Texas A&M University?
The PLP will assist you in developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are necessary to be an effective leader. It will enable you to assess your environment and to set goals for yourself and your work group that benefit you, your group, your customers, and the university. You will be exposed to both theory and practice that you will be able to apply to your work setting. You will have an opportunity to learn more about leadership, work situations, and the individuals you direct. You will be able to evaluate your situation, your skills, abilities, and your leadership style, as well as the abilities of those in your group. You will interact with other university leaders in this program. You will build your professional network and learn from each other. Workshops will be delivered with an emphasis on applying what you learn to your work situation so when you are finished with each class you will have several new tools to add to your repertoire.
- Is there a charge or fee for taking part in a certificate program?
Yes. The fee covers the cost of materials, assessments and/or a textbook, and the certificate plaque.
- What is the benefit of enrolling in the Professional Leadership Program (PLP) program?
Research shows that engaging in leadership development programs, particularly while one is serving in a leadership position, improves leadership skills. Additionally there is support in the research literature that training programs can provide to the organization a positive return on investment. The PLP can help to refine the skills of supervisors, as well as improve their ability to assist employees in their own professional development.
